About This Project

A full gut renovation of a two-story brick rowhouse in Kensington — taken down to the shell and rebuilt into one of the most characterful houses on the block. The facade got the respect treatment: repointed and painted brick, a restored cornice, black windows, and a new entry with a proper transom.

Inside, we let the building's bones do the talking. Exposed brick walls run the full depth of the house under whitewashed original joists, and a floating steel-and-reclaimed-wood staircase climbs past them to a skylight. The kitchen pairs a navy island and quartz counters with brass hardware and reclaimed wood shelving; the baths run white subway and hexagon tile with walnut vanities and backlit mirrors.

Gut renovations are where judgment matters most: what you save, what you replace, and how new systems thread through a hundred-year-old structure. This one kept the century of character and replaced everything that needed to work like new.
